Perimeter Intrusion Detection systems come in many types and formats.  Options for perimeter detection include point to point active infra red, microwave beam sets and buried line detection.  Another application commonly used is fixing sensor cable to the fence or fabric of a building for the detection of intruders.  Each product and its use will be carefully selected taking into account the risk and environmental considerations of the site.
